Question: I can’t afford the submission fees but I still want to apply? Is there any way you can help me out?

Question: 
Do I get a refund if I don't get in?

Answer: 
Submission fees are non-refundable. Big Pine Comedy Festival is a 501 (c) 3 organization and your submission helps support the Arizona art community through elementary art education. Thank you for your donation. 


Question: I didn't get into the festival but I’m still hoping for stage time. Will there be any opportunities for me?

Answer: Absolutely! By attending Big Pine you are placing yourselves in the middle of an amazing networking opportunity.  During the festival there are MULTIPLE (8 last year) open mic opportunities for ANY comedians in attendance. Additionally, with your submission you receive a FREE festival pass. Your pass will give you access to all festival events including a variety of workshops & seminars, showcases, industry panels, after parties and more! There are even a few opportunities to win spots on a festival showcase later that same night. 

In addition, Big Pine needs volunteers. Volunteers receive a free festival pass including entry to all shows and workshops, and a festival t-shirt. Contact us  today if you are interested in volunteering at Big Pine. 

Question: Wait a minute! You think I should still come to Big Pine even if I didn't get in? What's in it for me? 

Answer: Our production team has worked hard to ensure that Big Pine Comedy Festival is a great opportunity for everyone involved. Big Pine is a festival for ALL comedians, not just selected performers. The opportunities for you in Flagstaff are endless. We hope you will join us. 


Question: What is Little Pine?

Answer: Little Pine is a comedy competition open to any comic who wants to come to Flagstaff and try and win a spot onto a festival showcase. There will be 3 Little Pine competitions during the festival. Sets for Little Pine will be 3 minutes, and if you win Little Pine you will do a festival showcase later the same night. To get booked for Little Pine, sign ups begin on our website in July 2018.


Question: Do I have to submit clean material?

Answer: Absolutely not! We welcome all versions of comedy from clean to down and dirty. However, if you have a clean set of 10 minutes or more please be sure to check the appropriate box on the submission form as this may result in additional opportunities for stage time. 

Question: Can I submit a "best of reel" for myself or my group?

Answer: No. We encourage you to edit your video to start and end at a certain point, but we currently do not accept any highlight reels or “best of” reels. Please try to begin with you or your team, not a host. 

Question: What types of group acts can submit to the festival?

Answer: All group acts will be considered including Sketch, Long Form Improv, Short Form Improv, Musical Comedy, Comedy Ensembles and any other Comedy Act with 2 or more people.  


Question: Who decides who gets into the festival?

Answer: The Big Pine producers have assembled a panel of 10 judges. This panel consists of  bookers, top local Arizona comedians, and independent comedy show producers. A minimum of 5 members of the Big Pine panel will rate each video submission, and the cumulative scores will determine who will receive the 70 open spots to Big Pine Comedy Festival 2017. In addition, our production team has reserved a few booked spots. 

Question: Will Improv teams/sketch groups/podcasts/musical comedy be invited to the festival?

Answer: YES!  The number of Improv/Sketch groups is to be determined but we estimate there will be about 10 groups.Each sketch/improv group is guaranteed one, 20 minute set at Big Pine. Additional time is available depending upon group/team availability. 

Question: Will industry be invited to the festival?

Answer: Yes. Big Pine Comedy Festival, Inc., is officially sponsored by Rick Bronson's House of Comedy and a booker/club representative will be present at Big Pine 2018 again this year. We also anticipate there will be representation from Tempe Improv (AZ), Stand Up Live (AZ), and Ha Ha's (CA). In addition, multiple owners and bookers from all across the country and Canada have been invited to attend Big Pine 2018 and we expect several will be in attendance.
 
Question: How much stage time will I get?

Answer: Festival performers will receive at least 3 performance opportunities from September 20-22, 2018.  Performances are based on the performer's availability. If you are unable to be in Flagstaff during one or more of these dates, your performances may be limited. Set lengths range from 5-15 minutes. Please note: There are additional opportunities for stage time depending on availability and scheduling. 

Question: Will accommodations be provided?

Answer: YES! Big Pine will provide shared accommodations for featured festival comedians. 

Performers requiring private accommodations are responsible for making these arrangements at their expense. This includes any performers planning to share their room with a significant other/friend at the festival. Big Pine will have affordable and discounted rooms available for all festival pass holders, and we encourage you to take advantage of these deals. If  you plan to make alternative arrangements please let us know.

Improv/Sketch Groups: Each group will be provided one room during the festival. Rooms must not exceed maximum occupancy. Any additional accommodations needed by your groupareat your expense.

Question: What type of comedians are you looking for?

Answer: We are currently accepting comedians from all stages in the comedy journey. Any comedian, from newbies to headliners,  who are interested in participating in Big Pine are invited to submit. 


Question: I have attended Big Pine in the past. Can I still submit? 


Answer: Yes. Any video submitted to Big Pine 2018 will be considered. However, if you have been a part of the official lineup for 2 consecutive years (or more) we ask that you please consider being involved in some other way. Our team is currently looking for additional producers, associate producers, volunteers and more. Please contact us for additional information. 


​Question: How much does it cost to submit to the festival?

Answer: Good question. Submission costs range from $20-$50 and escalate gradually during our open submission period.
